It’s International Women’s Day today, and there’s a shift that I’m seeing in everyone’s posts. Honestly, it gives me hope. (I’ll tell you why in a second.) But, first, I want to celebrate YOU!
I want YOU to celebrate YOU!
Too often we discount all the lovely and wonderful things we do for the people in our lives, in our jobs, and as we go about the day being our magnificent selves.
Not everything is perfect, and every day isn’t dahlias and dreams, yet you show up. You give your best, and you make a difference for those around you.
Thank you. It matters.
What I’ve noticed this year is a difference in what people are posting about women. Specifically how they’re celebrated. (Which should, of course, happen everyday.)
In previous years, many of the posts focus on the sacrifice that women make for their kids, their communities, and their jobs.
Yes, we make choices and sometimes we do make sacrifices in the process. But to celebrate women putting their lives on hold for everyone and everything else makes me want to cry. Or punch something.
Choices, yes. Sacrifices? As in giving up the dream in your heart or settling for less than what you know you’re capable of? No thanks.
This year, most of the posts I’ve seen celebrate the action. Women making things happen, changing the world, and being incredible in the process. This inspires me.
This is YOU. This is all of us.
The important thing to remember is that you don’t have to jump into a whole different life to act powerfully and make a difference. You don’t have to change who you are, but you do have to start OWNING who you are and sharing it with the world. Your family. Your work.
There are no martyrs here. Be an action taker. A difference maker. Someone who LOVES who they are and what they share with the world. Lead by example. (It’s more fun!)
(And if, by chance, you do want your life to look differently, then start where you are and build what you want! Consistent purpose and action will get you where you want to go.)
Keep doing your thing!
PS. Remember that if you’re trying to figure out how to be more purposeful in your day to day, the freebie of my online course (Inner) Self Care helps you do that! So, I’ll leave this here: Click here to get it!
